Connect with Chicks in Atlanta
So, you’ve just graduated from college and most of your college friends have moved away, or you’re new in town and don’t know anyone, or maybe you’ve been here for years but for one reason or another you have very few female friends. You want to make new friends but you find yourself wondering why it’s so hard to meet them and how to do it. Becky Cronin wondered some of the same things. She asked other women if they felt the same way, and they did. This knowledge inspired her to create Chicks in Atlanta (CIA), a women’s only social group.
Started in 2007, CIA is now a thriving club with approximately 80 women attending each event. Though the group is primarily for women in their 20s and 30s, women of older ages are also very welcome. As Becky says, “Women of all ages have the same needs.” CIA hosts monthly women’s-only cocktail parties at various Atlanta venues. These events are held at restaurants and bars that offer discounts and/or other incentives such as free appetizers and gift certificates, which means a fun night out with the girls at a discounted price. That’s hard to beat!
It should be noted that CIA is not a singles group – participation is open to all women, regardless of relationship status. In fact, the group is almost evenly split between single women and women who are either married or in relationships. Becky considers CIA a great way for women in relationships to get away from their significant others for some girl time and for single women to form friendships with other women.
Men also benefit from the group. Every few months, CIA hosts “Sushi” and “Stock the Pond” parties where men and women are both welcome. These events provide opportunities for the significant others of CIA members to meet new people and for single men to meet the wonderful women of CIA.
If you think it all sounds great, but wonder if you can really establish solid friendships with other women through CIA, the answer is “most definitely!” A member who had a very difficult time finding friends in Atlanta sought out Becky to personally thank her for starting the group because she met women whom she now considers to be some of her best friends.
