Atlanta Contemporary Art Center: A Creative Institution
For more than 37 years, Atlanta Contemporary Art Center (ACAC) has supported local and international artists through exhibitions, educational programs and a unique Studio Artist Program, and it was the location of Date Night’s recent guy panel event. ACAC is a cool, distinctive space showcasing cool, distinctive art.
Located on Means Street in West Midtown, ACAC presents eight to 10 exhibitions per year in four exhibition cycles displaying art in a variety of media, including painting, drawing, photography, sculpture, video and site-specific installations.
During the run of each exhibition cycle, ACAC schedules a series of educational programs that include Curator and Artist Talks, Film Screenings with Commentary, and Contemporary Talks – a new lecture series featuring curators, dealers, architects, critics and artists who have been instrumental in the art world.
For artistic couples, ACAC provides excellent date activities. Visit The Resource Room to peruse books, catalogs and periodicals that focus on contemporary art or check out local artists at work during ACAC’s Studio Artist Program open studio events. Afterwards, grab a bite and a drink at Bocado, Miller Union or Der Beirgarten.
ACAC’s current exhibitions include O’ Say Can You See? film installation by Laura Poitras; Recent Photography by Steve Aishman and Jaimie Warren; and The Bridge by Canadian artist Mia Feuer. The Center is open Tuesday through Sunday.
For the ultimate art lovers date night out, plan to attend ACAC’s Fall Auction Benefit (FAB) Saturday, November 6th. An evening of art, music, food and drinks, FAB features an impressive selection of auction items such as a backstage tour of Cirque Du Soleil, swimming with the sharks at Georgia Aquarium and a wine experience at Cellar 13. All proceeds support ACAC’s exhibitions and programs. Visit www.thecontemporary.org/fab for information and to purchase tickets.
